Windborne Corsican Intensive (Boston area)

 Sunday, Aug 23, 3:30-6pm at The Foundry, 101 Rogers St, Cambridge, MA 02142

THE TEACHING:
This will be a intensive workshop focused on Corsican polyphonic singing with the goal of working towards singing in small groups. No specific experience with Corsican music is needed, but participants should feel comfortable singing in harmony, one on a part, and be interested in challenging themselves! Corsican singing works best in very small groups, so the slots in the workshop will be limited. 

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to dive into this engaging and unusual tradition, which involves close harmony and improvised ornamentation, in a musical game between the parts! Including both sacred music and folk songs known as ‘paghjellas’, Corsican polyphony is musically challenging, but huge fun to sing. The experience is somewhere between a standard workshop and a master class--we will start with full group warmups, ornamentation exercises, and learning the basic structure of the song and the "rules of engagement" for each voice part. As we progress, there will be opportunities to sing in small groups and get personalized feedback. Hopefully, it'll feel more like learning to play a new game than going to choir rehearsal!

Typically we would charge $35 for this workshop. However, we recognize that there are folks whose economic circumstances would prevent them from taking part if there was not a deliberate opportunity made for them to attend at a cost that is reflective of their economic realities.

No one turned away for lack of funds. Please pay what feels both generous and affordable to you. If you can’t afford to pay $35, that’s fine. We want the workshop to be available to everyone, you included. Pay what you can afford. If you can afford to pay more than $35, your generosity goes towards supporting other attendees and making this a viable, accessible, and awesome event. If you would like to pay less or more than the options listed below, please contact us and we will make it happen!

GETTING TO THE FOUNDRY
The Foundry is 0.4 miles away from the Kendall MIT stop where you can catch the Red line and 64, 68, 85, CT2, 64, 68, and 85 buses.
It is 0.5 miles away from the Lechmere stop where you can catch the Green line and 69, 80, 87, and 88 buses.
The Foundry does not have a designated parking lot. Metered parking is available on surrounding streets. Many street meters end at 6pm, but be sure to check local signage when you park. Another good parking option is First Street Garage in East Cambridge, an 8 min walk from The Foundry.
